FUNDING OPPORTUNITY – PROJECTS SUPPORTING LOCAL ECONOMIC COMMUNITY PLANS ANNOUNCED: Recently a new call for projects supporting Local Economic Community Plans with a targeted geographical focus was announced. Funding of up to €1,000,000 is available for projects in Laois, Offaly, Longford, Ballinasloe, Athy, Clane and Maynooth. There is €3,700,000 available in this call under the European Union’s Just Transition Fund (EU JTF) programme, which is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union. DURROW COMMUNITY SERVICES CLG: Durrow Community Services currently have the following vacancies: 5 positions as an Environmental Worker in Durrow; 1 position as Groundskeeper in GAA Grounds, Durrow; 3 positions as Catering Assistant in Durrow Meals on Wheels; 2 positions as an Environmental Worker in Cullohill; 1 position as an Environmental Worker in Ballacolla. DOG WALKERS – LEAFY LOOP WALKS! We are again reminding people that ALL dogs must be kept on a lead, without exception on the Leafy Loop in Durrow, this includes Dunmore, Clonageera, Bishops Wood, Derry Wood, Knockatrina and The Course. The Leafy Loop traverses across Coillte Woodlands and Farmlands with protected species and farm animals. Your Dog is not an exception to be left off a lead.

DOG WALKERS! A reminder to clean up after your dog. We have Mutt Mitt dispensers and instructions on how to clean up after your dog, throughout Durrow. Dog fouling is a serious health risk and children can easily not see it and bring indoors on bikes, shoes, buggies and it’s a particular hazard to wheelchair users. If you’d like to become a green dog walker we have information in the Post Office and Library regarding the initiative. Please be responsible and clean up after your pet!

VIVE LE FRANCE: What a journey our scouting group had recently as we were accompanied by thirteen members of the Sixth Laois Mountrath Group when we set off for France on international camp. There will be shared stories and memories with new friends that will live on for a very long time to come.

Relics of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes – The Diocese of Ossory will host a visit of the Relics of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday the 21st and 22nd of September 2024 in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Kilkenny. This is an initiative to bring a small piece of Lourdes to Ireland and make it possible for more people to experience something of what is close to the hearts of those who travel on our diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes each year.

U12 FINGALLIANS TOURNAMENT 2024: Well done to the Harps U12s who played in the Fingallians tournament on Sunday, August 25th last winning their first five matches against teams from Kilkenny, Kildare, Meath and Dublin. The lads unfortunately lost their last match by just two points to Carnmore of Galway. A great day’s hurling was enjoyed by all in attendance.

CULLOHILL HANDBALL CLUB: Tadhg and Cathal had a great week competing in the 13 and Under Boys World championship Doubles last week. In the main competition they lost out after a great game to two strong boys from Cavan. They then had the opportunity to progress into the plate competition where they played their way into the semi final where they came up against another strong pair from Wexford. The two boys played great stuff all week and continue to gain great experience. Well Done Lads on a great showing.

CONDOLENCES: We were shocked to hear of the tragic passing of River Rangers’ player and Chairman Shane Murphy. Shane was always a formidable opponent, and the Lions AFC wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Murphy family, extended family, friends, and the members of River Rangers AFC.
