ADULT MEN’S TEAM – Junior Pat Maher Shield – Thomastown United 1 V 2 Lions AFC. First competitive game of the year against a strong Thomastown United side. Excellent effort by both sides in a very competitive game. Thomastown United opened the scoring after a tense start to the game with an excellent header from a corner. The lads didn’t drop their heads and had chances with Luke Hudner, Che Walsh and Paddy Daly. Good joy was coming down the left side from Lee Campion and Paddy Daly. Lions shortly equalised after with a counter from a Thomastown corner with Che Walsh catching the keeper off the line and Paddy Daly was first on to it to slot home.
The lads kept working hard and finished strong with another goal by Luke Hudner and assisted by Rian Edwards.
The 2nd half was a tough half with Thomastown United pushing strong for an equaliser but good defending, goal line clearance and excellent saves from Shane Keown keeping us ahead to see out the game. Excellent away result against a very good Thomastown United team. Looking forwards to the start of the league in the coming weeks.
WELL DONE – A big shout out to Lions players, Frankie, Taylor and Conor who played for Kilkenny and District Leauge last Sunday August 27th in the prestigious U12 Coastal Cup in Malahide. A brilliant experience for the lads and their team as they continue their development. Keep up the good work lads.
